Subject and Association DescriptionNote from Alinah Azadeh:
“Part of a series, ‘the gifts of the departed’, made in the aftermath of my Iranian mother’s sudden death in the Asian tsunami and using objects from her estate, and explored grief, materiality and longing. The books used in this sculpture were from the library of her late husband Richard Rieu, a Sufi and the grandson of EV Rieu, the founder of Penguin Books. I can’t say more than that about the books I chose as I wish them to remain secret and the act of wrapping them was part of a ritual of completion re this part of my mother’s life.”
