Name/TitleKnitted Ninja Hat
About this objectThese hats were knitted and worn by Helsinki Roller Derby’s All Star travel team for many years, and I had one made after our two teams became friendly. The team was known as the All Star Ninja Turtles, hence the hats!
At Track Queens, the first ever WFTDA European tournament, in the half time of the final game (ARRG placed fourth and played in the 3/4th place game beforehand), ARRG and Helsinki staged a fake battle between Cowboys and Ninjas. The skaters from ARRG were cowboys and wore bandanas, due to an extended joke involving our headshots for the tournament, which were all cartoon versions of ourselves as My Little Ponies.
The skaters from Helsinki wore these hats and were the Ninjas. The battle took over the entire track and our captain, Ciderella, stole the microphone from the announcer to tell people about what was going on.
People from the crowd and skaters from the final game joined in and it ended up in a large pile up.
