Subject and Association DescriptionInverclyde Women Create! is a weekly art class that began congregating in January 2022. With a fabric of female-identifying creatives from the Inverclyde area, we are a space for intra-cultural and multi-generational dialogue through creation. Our class welcomes women wanting to learn new art skills, to bridge affinities of experience and most importantly, to forge new friendships. Following the Scottish lockdowns, this class has built confidence through community and skill sharing. With a successful exhibition in early 2023 at the Beacon Arts Centre, the group has continued to explore their drawing skills to illuminate self-written stories of strength, resilience and place. The storytelling is approached through a lens of para-fiction; a form of storying which blends truth and fiction to reveal a moral or sub-text. Bound together in a manuscript-style book, this collaborative project has allowed for natural themes to emerge including folklore and female connections to the land.
