About this objectSmall paperback booklet with olive green cover (covered with protective fly sheet) issued by the General Nursing Council for Scotland and titled 'Syllabus for Admission to the Roll of Nurses and Pupil Nurse's Record of Practical Instruction and Experience.' The Pupil Nurse's name is Matilda Gillespie Scullion, her training schools are given as Heathfield and Ayr County Hospitals, and training commenced on 1st September 1964. Each section inside the booklet has been signed by Matilda and a Sister or Charge Nurse.

Heathfield Hospital was a health facility in Heathfield Road, Ayr, South Ayrshire, Scotland. The facility, which was designed by John Eaglesham (1855-1922), opened as the Burgh Fever Hospital in June 1905. It joined the National Health Service in 1948 and a large outpatients' department was built on an adjacent site in 1962. After services transferred to the new Ayr Hospital, the inpatient facilities at Heathfield Hospital closed in 1991 and the buildings were subsequently demolished. The out‑patients' department became known as the Heathfield Clinic and continued to provide services until 2015 when it also closed and was also subsequently demolished.

Ayr County Hospital was a health facility in Holmston Road, Ayr, South Ayrshire, Scotland. The facility had its origins in an establishment known as the Ayr, Newton and Wallacetown Dispensary which opened in 1817 and was replaced by a hospital in Mill Street in 1844. It moved to purpose-built facilities in Holmston Road, designed by John Murdoch (1825-1907), in 1882. It joined the National Health Service in 1948. After services transferred to the new Ayr Hospital, Ayr County Hospital closed in 1991 and was subsequently demolished.
