Name/TitleThe New Lesbian Songbook
About this objectSlim A4-sized publication with pink covers titled 'The New Lesbian Songbook', published by Outburst Arts for Outburst Queer Arts Festival 2020. In the introduction, Ruth McCarthy, Artistic Director of Outburst reflects: "It's surprising that - except for a possible glitch in the matrix in 1993 - lesbians have never really been seen as cool in the mainstream, when we've been central to so many cultural and artistic movements. While the world embraced gay disco and lip synching, sapphic subculture has largely remained the preserve of lesbian lives and spaces. And, maybe, in some ways we're happy to keep it just for ourselves. Yet the contribution that lesbian, bi and queer women and non-binary folk have made to music is deep and wide and it is that which we celebrate in The New Lesbian Songbook." The listed contents are:
- the missing piece, Hilary McCollum
- she / they rock! ain't that peculiar?, Shannon Delores O'Neill
- a lesbian history of brazilian music, Natalia Mallo
- tough titties, Stacey Gregg
- confessions of a singer-songwriter, Danielle Carragher
- confessions of a singer-songwriter, Ismail Fayed and Adham Hafez
- "if I don't get her soon, I'll have a heart attack" - carol pope: forgotten lesbian icon, Bethany Crooks
- ronnie & abi: the original soundtrack (of a fake movie), Alanah Smith
