About this objectFold-out leaflet detailing works by Jacqueline Donachie ('Sword') and Alison Gill ('Transporter') in an exhibition at Jerwood Gallery in London.
Text written by Lisa Panting states: "Sword 1999 grew out of Donachie's observation of classes of teenage girls practising traditional Highland dancing in both Glasgow and London. During these rehearsals, she made both photographic and audio recordings. Combining these elements with architectural structures she creates situations that articulate the intensity of the process, where the performative element is made present to the utmost degree." ... "Transporter 1999 by Alison Gill is a five-metre high golden staircase that [acts] as a route to another plane of consciousness. The doubtful nature of this possibility is manifest in the structure itself, as the complexity of its engineering would see to undermine this quest. Its construction was achieved by laser-cutting each layer, then meticulously gluing these pieces together, resulting in a seemingly solid object of cardboard..."
